Welcome to Horsell Common

Horsell Common has a wonderful mix of landscapes with heathland, woodland and meadows creating a rich and diverse habitat for hundreds of species of flora and fauna, including the nightjar, Dartford warbler, woodlark and silver-studded blue butterfly which all breed on the heathland. The soft mauves of heather in August, the bird song from warblers to the churring of the nightjar and dragon flies darting across the still waters of the ponds all make this a haven of peace for local residents. This fragile heathland habitat, the woodland and the meadows are owned and managed by Horsell Common Preservation Society, which carries out a careful programme of work for both recreation and conservation
